This photo is of a West African musical instrument, called a shekere, which is made of a gourd and beads. It is used for its sounds when shaken. The deep rust brown gourd has beige-white seashells for beads and beige fiber wrapped around it. It sits on an African woven basket with a lotus-like design, having four black and brown petals with beige bead-like design at the outter edges corresponding well with the real seashell beads.
