The history of Africans being brought to the United States and enslaved by its Caucasian residents is American history. Under cruel conditions, the slaves enabled the economy to grow and prosper. Yet, the slaves and their offspring made and still make many cultural contributions to society as well. They have become soldiers, business owners, astronauts, educators, musicians, physicians, and more. They have served in government all the way to the Presidency. Their history is a huge part of American history and worth studying. "Black History" is not just for Black Folk to learn. It is for all to respect and to use that understanding to help overcome long-lasting residual beliefs and effects that polarize the country.
